But, new research released by the has revealed that nearly two out of every three adults are now considered to be overweight or obese as well as one in every four kids. Not only is our country’s collective waistline growing, but it’s having a massive effect on our nation’s hip pocket too.
In 2011–12, obesity cost the Australian healthcare system and PwC Australia have estimated that if this trend continues, it will end up costing over the next 10 years! But according to the report, if all Australians at risk of weight-related diseases lost around three kilograms each, it would greatly improve their overall health.
The results also revealed that Indigenous Australians and those living outside of major cities were more likely to be overweight or obese. Not surprisingly, food and nutrition was an influencing factor, with research pointing the finger at our excessive consumption of foods . One more reason for a perhaps?
