Tell us how you came to be in the role you are today…

It all started for me when I was 11 years old and started doing aerobics with my mum and sister. From there I started lifting weights (at age 12!) and from that moment on I have always trained and played competitive sport. This then led me into coaching and then training people 24 years ago and have not looked back since.

What would be your best advice to someone starting out on the same career path as you?

To always keep learning and to continuously educate yourself – not just from extra courses but from your clients and other trainers. Always make sure that you are keeping your eyes and ears open, and always seek to increase your knowledge.

How do you relax when you’re not busy answering questions at Keys2words?

Playing with my four kids and a round of golf (when I get the chance!).

What’s the hardest thing about your job?

Cleaning up other people’s weights in the gym – if you use them please put them away.

In five words, tell us the most important qualities for someone in your particular role…

Compassion, empathy, energetic, optimistic, inquisitive.

What do you enjoy most about working in your field?

I get to befriend some amazing people and then help them to feel better about themselves. I am presented with new challenges daily which I absolutely love! I also enjoy the diversity of clients – from doctors to sales people to obstetricians (one of which has since delivered three of my children!).

What’s next on your horizon?

To keep increasing my knowledge, grow our online fitness business (Body Be Well), and to make more time for golf.

If you weren’t a fitness coach and trainer, you would have been a…

A lawyer – I love a good argument.

Now we are finally seeing what the long term damage of excessive amounts of sugar in our diets is doing to the wider community. I believe has opened many people’s eyes to this. Her books are easy to read, her facts supported by science and her recipes are an added bonus. We absolutely encourage all our clients at Body Be Well to adapt the JERF philosophy.
